History & Tips

Game History

  • Released in October 1992, with 10,400 made
  • Design by John Borg, code by Lonnie Ropp and Neil Falconer
  • “Shifter” ball launch is, to my knowledge unique to this game
  • Trivia: Speeder Mode was originally supposed to be a video mode, but supposedly Williams threatened to sue. It seems equally likely they ran out of time to code it, however.

About THIS Game

  • Running updated code. Big features include adding Ball Save and reducing the crazy ramps scoring on the original. Full rules here.
  • Upgrades: Color DMD, mirrored backglass, improved speakers/subwoofer, start button & coin rejects (Rocket City), aluminum flipper bushings (Precision Pinball), scoop lights
  • Shopped NOV 22; flippers and pops all rebuilt
  • Cabinet is rough. I’ll get to it eventually 😉
Tips & Strategy

  • Multiball is the biggest scorer. Hit the Death Star gate to light moons. When they are all lit, shoot it again to start multiball. Alternately, once you get to the red moons, you can raise the shifter hit the launch button to open the gate, but you’ll only have 10 seconds to make the shot.
  • In multiball, hit the Death Star, then the center ramp to open the DS for a super jackpot countdown. If you drain out before getting an SJ, you’ll have 10 seconds to hit the DS to restart multiball.
  • Easiest and safest way to hit the Death Star: trap on the right flipper and backhand.
  • The force scoop hands out some profitable mini-modes and rewards when lit. Re-light it by hitting the “Light The Force” lane to R2D2.
  • Yoda hands out great rewards too whenever lit.
  • Left orbit (through the pops) will relight the left outlane save/kicker. Very useful as that outlane is greedy!
